Expanding our Ministries
The Nominations Committee met in January to consider several strategies that may help us to expand our ministry and to reach more people for Jesus. Our conversation was directed by four questions:
1. How can we meet new needs through small group ministries?
2. How can we reach more children in a 1-mile radius of the church?
3. How can we connect more first-time visitors into the life of our church?
4. How can we strengthen our pathways to spiritual growth and maturity?
Several action items to help our progress are on the docket. Pastor Jeff will set up a meeting with the Lay Shepherding work area to discuss ways to strengthen and expand small groups. The Nurture Committee will propose that we add mentors to our strategy for ministry—persons called to mentor new attendees and help them to find ways that they can get to know others and get involved. The committee will also propose that we add new persons to the Care Team who feel called to a ministry of visitation to our homebound members. In addition to strengthening the teaching staff, the Sunday School has begun coordinating with Pastor Jeff so that he can help and encourage new Sunday School families.
If you are interested in starting a new ministry of small group of any kind, please see Pastor Jeff or John Reidy for further discussion.
Wonderfully Made Cards
"Wonderfully Made" is a new ministry led by Karin and Christina Clark involving card making. The group meets on the second Monday of each month. The first meeting is September 12th from 6:30-9:00 pm. Come out and make cards for your own use or to donate to the church.
A new ministry for feeding the hungry will begin in October. Thank you to Karen VanHouten for leading this ministry. Be on the lookout for ways you can be involved.
Music! Music! Music!
If you like to sing, Cross Keys is the place for you. We have choirs for all, and we encourage people to sing Christian music they believe the Holy Spirit is leading them to sing. Our Praise Team plays for us regularly at early Sunday Service. Our Senior Choir sings each Sunday at the 11:15 Service and also performs a wonderful Cantata each year on Palm Sunday. Our music outreach is very important to us. We enjoy all kinds of music including old hymns, new hymns, praise choruses, contemporary Christian and just about anything else you can think of. Why not come out to one of our worship services and sing your heart out!
Our Youth program at Cross Keys is alive and well! Whether the Youth are singing and acting in church, to cleaning up the street in front of our church, collecting monies for a mission outreach or fellowshipping to the glory of His name, they can always be seen at Cross Keys. We have a Drama Team, Sunday School, and an active U.M.Y.F. ranging from 5thgrade to High School. There is something for everyone in the youth fellowship ministries at Cross Keys!
Our Lay Shepherding program is an up and coming ministry of which we are very excited about. Its goal is to provide people from within the Church and from outside of it, with diverse opportunities to grow in their faith. So far, we have had a class on the Lord's Prayer, a Bible Trivia Night, and a movie/discussion night. Many other interesting events are in the works. If you are looking to grow in your faith and have a desire to fellowship with other Christians, watch for dates and times for the exciting Lay Shepherding at Cross Keys UMC.
