Lenten Study ~ begins February 28, 2017
Pastor John Reidy will lead a powerful 7-week Lenten Bible study, "From Ashes to Resurrection." The study will focus on both the Old and New Testaments and consider Lenten traditions celebrated in both the church and culture. Pastor John will begin this inspiring journey with the meaning behind Ash Wednesday and then walk participants forward—all the way to the resurrection of Jesus. Prayerfully consider joining us in Faith Hall at 7:30p every Tuesday beginning on February 28th.
Ash Wednesday Services: March 1st
Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent, a six-week season of repentance and reflection in the Christian calendar that focuses on the significance of Jesus sacrifice on the cross. Ashes will be administered at two different times. From 12:00p to 12:30p, a station will be set up in the church sanctuary for the imposition of ashes to commuters and parents from the Children’s Garden. At 7:00p, we will hold a brief service that will also include the administration of ashes. This year’s theme for the evening service will focus on the symbols of Lent and members of our junior and senior high youth group will be participating. Our celebration of Ash Wednesday serves as a powerful reminder of our need for repentance and self-denial and of the new life God promises through Christ. Everyone is invited to attend.
Lenten Devotional Booklet
Publishing an annual Lenten Devotional Booklet is one of the special traditions at Cross Keys. Lent begins on Wednesday, March 1st. If you would like to make a contribution, please contact July Guenther, our general editor, or e-mail her at email@example.com. All submissions will be edited for flow, style, and theological content. Copies of the devotions for week 1 will be available on Sunday, February 26th.
Movie Night, New Date! ~ March 4, 2017
Irreplaceable: What Is Family, is the featured film on movie night, Saturday, March 4th at 7:00p. Every member of the human race has the desire for significance – a desire to belong. And the family is where those deepest longings are fulfilled. Unfortunately, the word “family” has all but lost its meaning in our modern cultural landscape. And the fallout has been significant—divorce, crime, poverty, addictions and abuse. Our attempts to redefine and reimagine the family only make these problems worse, not better. When the family is weakened, society suffers. But strong families make the world a better place! Travel around the world with our host , Tim Sisarich, to explore what impacts families most today. Learn how your role in creating and encouraging stable families can transform the world. Through this timely documentary and panel discussion, leading experts such as Dr. Miriam Grossman, Eric Metaxas, and John Stone Street, along with many others, tackle relevant topics such as:
· Is marriage still relevant?
· How important are dads to a family?
· Is “anything goes" sexuality good for society?
· Are male/female differences worth celebrating?
Irreplaceable will offer you a message of hope-that it's never too late to become a better father, mother, sister or brother! It's worth it! Due to discussion of teen sexuality, abortion and other mature topics, Irreplaceable is recommended for age’s l5 and older.
