Variety Breakfast

Where is the Best Breakfast in Town?

Right here at Cross Keys United Methodist Church!  Come join us  every first Saturday of the month for a great time of fellowship and a wonderful breakfast. October’s breakfast will be held on Saturday, November 4, from 8:00 am -11:00 am.  Come join us for what most people think is the best “all you can eat” breakfast around.  For the amazing price of $10 (children 3-12 $3, 0-2 free), you’ll want to invite your friends, neighbors, and co-workers to enjoy the great food and fellowship with you.  Volunteers are needed—if you want to join the awesome breakfast team (Friday morning and/or Saturday morning) call Linda Fuscia at 629-3379.

Thank you to everyone for your help and support of our breakfast months!

Meal Ministry

Members and Friends of Cross Keys Church: If you have had a recent hospital stay or have been dealing with illness, our Meal Ministry has some delicious meals that they will love to share with you!  Made with love and prayed over, a few meals like this may be just what you need. Contact Pat Sprengle for meals or if you know someone in the church who is in need.

The Hope Mobile Food Bank

The Hope Mobile Food Bank is our monthly community outreach for those who are in need of food.  On the third Saturday of each month we set up a food distribution center in the parking lot in front of our Educational Building.  Volunteers from our church and the community help us to reach disabled veterans, single mothers, senior citizens, and those who have lost jobs.  Each month we are able to help over 100 families.  Volunteers help us distribute food, set up tables, sort food, break apart boxes, to take down and clean up, and to encourage clients who need food.  Thinking of volunteering?  Come to the early shift, 7:00a to 8:00a, the middle shift—8:00a to 9:30a or to the late shift—9:30a to 11:00a.  Your hands can be the hands of Jesus at work in our community!

Sunday School Christmas Play Practice

Starting October 8, Sunday School Christmas Play practice will start from 11:00 am-11:30 am. Christmas Play is December 9 at 7:00 pm. Choir practice will be announced. No Sunday School on October 15 - All Sunday School children and parents are also invited to attend the Harvest Fest. Bring a friend or two.

Veteran’s Day, November 11

Veteran’s Day is a day that we thank God for those who sacrificially served our nation to protect our freedom of religious expression and other freedoms that we cherish.  Take the time to thank a veteran that you know and to reach out to those who are currently serving our country.  We are thankful that we live in a country that was founded on Christian values and that enables us to freely worship our amazing and sovereign God.  With thanksgiving, let’s place our hand over our hearts, sing our national anthem with pride and rededicate ourselves to sharing the hope of Jesus within our communities.

Carol’s Coats for Kids By November 12

In memory of Carol Hyndman and her devotion to children through her directorship of Children’s Garden Nursery School, we are collecting new winter coats. Male and female, infant through adult sizes can be donated at the church through November 12. If you prefer to donate money towards a coat, see Bill Green or Larry Hardwick of the Men’s Group. They will be use the money to purchase new coats.

This summer, the kids who attended Vacation Bible School – Operation Arctic were challenged to bring their pennies to buy coats for kids who did not have a warm coat. They donated $621 to purchase coats for Carol’s Coats for Kids!

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD…By Sunday, November 19

…is a project of the international relief organization, Samaritan’s Purse. We donate filled shoeboxes as a means of reaching out to children with the Good News of Jesus Christ. They ship these simple gifts to children in third world countries affected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine and disease; and to children living on Native American reservations in the U.S.

Empty shoe boxes will be in the Narthex, or you may have a shoe box at home you want to Christmas wrap and fill. Wrap the lid separate from the box so it may be opened. Instructions on what to include will be provided. Please include only items listed in the material as “accepted”, otherwise the entire shipment can be rejected.

Tips:  Toys that can be shared and used in a group  Comfort toys to hold/cuddle  Toys and games that never need a battery or power source  Non-climate specific items. No mittens, no swimmies or water goggles because you don’t know to what climate the box will be delivered.  Drop off filled shoe boxes at church by Sunday, November 19.

Advent Study: Begins November 28th

Pastor John Reidy will lead us in a four-week inspirational Advent study, “The Birth of the King.”  The sessions will be held on Tuesday evenings beginning on November 28th in Faith Hall, room 1.  Covering the topics of Jesus as Messiah, Jesus as the Christ and Jesus as the King, Pastor John’s biblically centered discussions and real-life applications will draw you closer to the Lord and to others during the advent season and beyond.  Everyone is invited to attend.
