January 2018

Snow could not keep the Sunday School children, family and friends away from finding Christmas at the Christmas Play. The children found Christmas and shared the feeling with everyone that special night! It came in a form of a small baby 2,000 years ago and stays with us as long as we have love in our hearts.
Our children continued to celebrate Christmas with a Happy Birthday Party for Jesus during Sunday School on Christmas Eve. The excitement could be heard throughout Faith Hall as the story was read about Jesus' birth, crafts were made, and laughter and love were shared. We topped off the morning with singing Happy Birthday Jesus. We all know that a birthday party for Jesus is not complete without having cake at 10:00 in the morning. The children didn't mind, we were celebrating the birth of Jesus! As we continue to celebrate the love of Christ in 2018, from our Sunday School family to yours we wish you a Happy New Year!
Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift! 2 Corinthians 9:15

November 2017

There is nothing like watching to the children singing and dancing to songs or giggling as they run down the hallway to their classes, watching the Jr. High compete with each other as they play football Bible Trivia and the Senior High Class prepare to perform a skit in November.  Nothing can keep these children from praising God! Also, don't forget there are two adult Sunday school classes and a Women's Bible Study open to all adults!

Mark Your Calendars  The Sunday School Christmas play is December 9th at 7:00p.  The children and youth are working hard on their lines and songs for this performance.

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth. ( 3 John 1: 4 )

We are also pleased to announce that this year 10% of our Sunday School offerings will go to the Red Bird School in Kentucky. Our church has supported Red Bird Mission for many years and now the Sunday School is joining in to help the children and school. Red Bird Christian School serves students in grades PreK-12 and centers on developing the full potential of its students in a Christian atmosphere.

Matthew 19:13 - 14  Then some children were brought to H im so that He might lay His hands on them and pray; and the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, "Let the children alone, and do not hinder them from coming to Me; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."
May 2017

Our Pre-K and Kindergarten Sunday School Class did an amazing job Sunday, April 23rd!  During the early service, they led the congregation in the Jesus Hokie Pokie and sang about giving their heart to Jesus.  May 21st is the last day of Sunday School for the season.  On that day, we will be celebrating Youth Sunday.  The youth are working hard to prepare as they get involved in every aspect of our worship services.  Several children who “Took the Challenge” will recite the eight verses of the Roman Road to salvation.  Immediately following the late service, everyone is invited to join us for our Annual Sunday School Picnic (rain or shine).  You can help us to uncover a piece of our past as we dig up a time capsule from the Vacation Bible School, class of 1998 (If you attended or served at VBS that year, please see Deedee).  As we pray for God to spiritually grow our children in faith and in service, we will also bury a new time capsule to be opened in 5 years (All who are in Sunday School, please bring your item to be buried by May 21st).  Also: We are hoping for 100% Sunday School attendance on Sunday, May 7th when we will take a group picture for the time capsule.  Finally, our prayers and best wishes go to two of our most faithful Sunday School attenders.  Dakota and McKenna’s dad, Alfred, is proudly serving our nation through the United States Coast Guard and, along with their mother, Rachel, will be deployed to Delaware later this spring.  We will miss you and pray that God will bless you, keep you and continue to make his face to shine upon you!

April 2017

The Jr. High class has been learning about the different parables each week. They did a fabulous job enlightening the 11:15 am service with a skit about the parable of the Good Samaritan.  The congregation also did a great job in answering questions about the parable!

Stay tuned as our Pre-K and Kindergarten class  presents a special act of praise during the 8:45 am service on Sunday, April 23rd.  We invite you to come find out how they give their hearts to Jesus.

 March 2017

Our Sunday School journey is moving fast. It’s hard to believe that March is right around the corner.  By the time this news article comes out, our 1st & 2nd graders would have led us in the Lord's Prayer during first service.  It is such a pleasure to see their faith journey moving closer to God step by step, prayer by prayer!

On March 12th, let’s welcome our junior high class in second service.  Shhhh - It's a secret!  They haven't even let us know what they are doing yet. But whatever it will be, I am sure it will be amazing!

“He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them.

And he said: Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.”

(Matthew 18: 1, 5)

February 2017

I want to give a huge “shout out” to our third to fifth Sunday School class!  During January, we challenged our congregation to see if the adults could place the 10 Commandments in the correct order.  I wasn't keeping score or anything, but I believe our children just might have stumped the congregation!   We are so proud of all of you, both young and old, for learning the 10 Commandments.  Be on the lookout!  During February, our first and second graders lead our congregation in the entire Lord’s Prayer!

Super Bowl Sunday is almost here - February 5, 2017... A perfect time to get all the Sunday School classes together for some fun and excitement (PreK-12th grade).  We hope all our children will come out and see what we have in store for them—hint, hint: it will not involve football.  The adult classes are also welcome to join in the fun!

Miss Deedee

“Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”

December 2016

Sunday School Christmas Play

"Oh What a Glorious Night" will be offered as an act of praise to the Lord and for family and friends on December 10, 2016 at 7:00 pm.  We are looking forward to a glorious night with the children.  The price of admission is an unused roll of toilet tissue (or pack) that will go to our Hope Mobile Food Bank, our monthly food distribution for residents in need that is held every third Saturday.  There will be refreshments after the play in Faith Hall.  We hope everyone can come, relax and enjoy the wonderful message of Christmas.  On Sunday, December 25th, the Sunday School and church will combine together in one celebration of Jesus’ birthday at 10:00 am in the church sanctuary.  We want to wish our children and parents a very Merry Christmas!

Joel Osteen wrote, “Christmas is the perfect time to celebrate the love of God and family and to create memories that will last forever.  Jesus is God's perfect, indescribable gift.  The amazing thing is that not only are we able to receive this gift, but we are able to share it with others on Christmas and every other day of the year.”  Be sure to invite a friend to the Christmas play and to our special services.

November 2016

Our Sunday School children are still traveling down Roman's Road in children's time with Mrs. Tilden.  It is always a pleasure to hear the children sing praises to God through song.  Their energy and love for God is amazing to see and hear. In Sunday School class, they are learning about Moses' adventure and how God guided his journey.  A reminder that Christmas Play practice is right after Sunday School during November, from 11-11:30a and choir practice is Sunday nights from 6-7:00p.  Mark your calendar for the dress rehearsal on December 4th from 12:30-2:30(ish).  Christmas Play is December 10th.  The Sunday School education meeting has been scheduled for November 7th at 7:30p.

Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it

October 2016

The Sunday School Great Adventure is on its way!  Each week we come together in song and fellowship each other as we learn about Joseph and his brothers; as well as Moses and his life's adventure.  Mrs. Tilden is teaching the children "Roman Roads" during children time.  There is a new scripture everyone month from the book of Romans.  We encourage the parents to help the children to memorize these four easy keys to God’s plan of salvation.  And… who wants to admit Christmas is right around the corner?  We are getting excited for our Christmas Program... children are eagerly signing up.  Play practice begins immediately after Sunday School on October 9th from 11:00-11:30 am.  Choir practice for children in the children and youth choir, will be on Sundays from 6:00-7:00 pm, start date TBA.

September 2016

Adventure Sunday School year begins on September 11, 2016, (Rally Day).  All ages are invited to attend.  We have nursery for our little tots, Pre-k through Senior High School, and let’s not forget our adult Sunday School Classes.  There is a class for everyone!  Bring a friend, and get ready for an adventure you wouldn't want to miss.

I opened up the Bible,

And I read about me.

Said, I'd been a prisoner

And God's grace had set me free

And somewhere between the pages

It hit me like a lightning bolt

I saw a big frontier in front of me

And I heard somebody say

"Let's go!"

--Steven Curtis Chapman
